Training Courses

WRD provides educational programs for novices as well as refresher courses for optics engineers. Our two-day course is held at WRD headquarters in Lincoln, Massachusetts.

You Will Learn To:

• Understand basic optical layouts and terms.
• Draw and explain layout of simple optical instruments, including slide projectors, compound microscopes, and telescopes.
• Understand the general capabilities and limitations of common lenses, including achromatic doublets, microscope objectives, and camera lenses.
• Understand the meaning of performance measurements, including resolving power, contrast, MTF, and ray fan plot.
• Set up and operate OpticStudio™ (Purchase of OpticStudio™ is not required for the course).
• Make basic performance measurements on lenses, including focal length, image quality on and off axis, contrast versus spatial frequency, and MTF.

Previous exposure to optics is useful, but not required for this course.
