Measuring Axial Color

Axial color means that the lens under test does not focus all colors to the same plane.

Measuring Axial Color

  • Starting with one narrow band filter, adjust stage for best focus
  • Set the digital micrometer to zero
  • Change narrow band filters

The OpticStudio hardware is rigid enough that you will not disturb the setup by swapping filters, or even reticles. On the other hand, common sense is essential: a firm knock on the system may indeed disturb the setup.
  • Focus carefully
  • Read the distance between the two focal planes directly from the digital micrometer.

The standard XYZ stage is suitable for Z axis measurements down to 2-5 microns. A crossed roller bearing stage is available if sub-micron precision is required.
